I am AKIHIRO NEMOTO, the representative director of NEMOTO SHUZO co.,Ltd. produced sake named KUJINOYAMA.
Our brewery is located in the area calleｄ OKU-KUJI where is known as a place of great nature beauty about 100km north from Tokyo City. The name of sake KUJINOYAMA has a meaning the mountains of OKU-KUJI. A part of that name KUJI also means “loving it for a long time” in notation with Chinese chracter. As the name, over 4 centuries we have been brewing sake assiduously around rich and pure nature where we love deeply.
Our brewery was established in 1603 when the days of a thing of war would be ending. In the course a lot of generals who were famous and powerful were losing their position, and IEYASU TOKUGAWA conquered all of Japan as general.
Our ancestor were working under one of general as Japanese peculiar soldiers “SAMURAI”. When their load master who were comanded by IEYASU TOKUGAWA to change teritories far away, they had to decide to move with their lord or stay the place even lose their SAMURAI states. Finally they decided to stay and started to brew sake adding MISO (a seasoning which assumed soy beans raw materials) and soy sause production which they were used to. This is the beginning of KUJINOYAMA brewery and I am the 20th master numbering from the founder.
YAMAGATA castle (rebuilt) which our ancestor worked for is placed near our brewery. The castle and KOMAGATA shrine which we use brewing water what gods blessing come from are very important and nessesary for us. That is why we named one of DAI-GINJO-SHU “MIJO” (that means “the respectable castle” in Japanese) which is also another name of YAMAGATA castle. |
